Lentil Salad | Kosambari |
Kosambari is a south Indian salad made from pulses and grated coconut, coriander and chili & veggies. The lentil generally used is split yellow moong dal/Mung bean. These salads can be eaten as snacks, as a side dish with your regular meals also.
Lentil salad is a really light
and refreshing salad and can be made on any occasion. Kosambari is distributed
as prasad during festivals like Ganesha Chaturthi & Sri Rama Navami and on
special occasions such as Varamahalakshmi vrat and Gowri festivals.
It is also popularly called as
moong dal salad and is delicious, rich in protein lentil and good for weight
loss.

Ingredients for making of Lentil Salad | Kosambari:
- Yellow moong dal
- Raw mango/Lemon juice - diced
- Carrot - grated
- Grated raw coconut
- Coriander leaves - finely chopped
- Cucumber (deseeded) - chopped into small pieces
- Green chillies -1 chopped finely
- Salt - as per taste
- Ginger - grated, a pinch
Here I am using raw mango, which I have peeled and diced into small pieces. If you don’t have raw mango available then you can use lemon juice instead.

Preparation of Lentil Salad | Kosambari:
1. Soak the yellow moong dal in
water for 1/2hr and drain the water completely and keep the soaked yellow
moong dal aside for 15 - 30 mins to allow the moisture dry up or else the salad
will turn watery.
2. To the soaked yellow moong dal
add all the ingredients one by one i.e raw mango pieces, grated Carrot &
raw coconut, Ginger, Cucumber, Green chillies and salt to taste and mix well
with the help of spoon.
Check the taste & add accordingly whichever is necessary.
Kosambari is an easy to make and
quick recipe that is prepared with soaked moong dal, carrots, cucumber, raw
mango, green chillies & ginger. The tangy flavour of this dish is a treat
for your taste buds.
