Ingredients for making of Raw Tamarind Pachadi /chutney:

  • Raw Tamarind (chintakaya) - 1 cup 
  • Salt - as per taste 
  • Turmeric - 1/4 spoon 
  • Green Chillies - 6-8 
  • Onion - 1 
  • For Tadka/Tempering: Oil ,Urad dal ,Jeera ,Mustard seeds ,Curry leave ,Red chili ,Hing/Asafoetida

Select tender tamarind/chintakayalu which do have hard seeds. Wash them thoroughly with water and dry them on a kitchen towel for few hours until they are completely dried. (The pachadi may not be preserved for longer time if raw tamarind are used wet)
  
Cut the raw tamarind (chintakaya), Green chillies and onion into small pieces.

In case if you get the tamarind with hard seed then chop and discard the seed from plup.

Preparation of Raw Tamarind Pachadi/chutney:


1) To make chintakaya pachadi, firstly take a mixer jar, in that add raw tamarind (chintakaya), green chillies along with salt and turmeric & grind it into paste.

Check the salt if required add accordingly.

2) Add chopped onions to the pachadi and coarse grind (Onion chunks tastes good with chutney).

Transfer the pachadi/chutney to a bowl.

3) Now time to add some seasoning/flavouring to the chutney for that we will prepare the tempering by heating oil in a tadka pan & add urad dal, jeera, mustard seeds, curry leaves, Red chili & a pinch of hing & fry till the urad dal turns golden brown in colour.

4) Pour the Tamarind Pachadi/chutney into the tempering & mix.
Cook for 2-3 mins in simmer flame.

  • Turn off the stove and allow it to cool down.
  • It can last for a week if stored in refrigerator.
